FAQs
Answers to the questions we get asked most.
How monitoring works, what a check actually looks at, where alerts land, and what is kept. If your question is not answered here, support will answer it.
What is ChangeTower, and how does website change monitoring work?
ChangeTower watches the web pages you name and tells you when the words or the HTML behind them change. You add a page, set how often it is checked and what counts as a change, and every check stores a dated snapshot. When something you care about changes, an alert goes out.
How do I set up my first monitor?
Paste the URL of the page you want to watch, choose how often it is checked and what you want to be told about, then save. The browser extension creates a monitor from any tab in one click, and a spreadsheet of URLs can be imported to create many monitors at once.
Do I need to install anything, or add code to the site I want to watch?
No. ChangeTower loads a page from the outside the way a visitor does, so there is nothing to install and no tag or script to add. That is why it works on pages you do not own, such as a competitor's pricing page or a regulator's guidance, as well as on your own site.
How much does ChangeTower cost?
Plans run from Free to Enterprise. Free covers 3 pages checked daily. Lite is $12 a month for 25 pages, Essential is $36 for 100 pages checked hourly, and Business is $78 for 200 pages checked every 20 minutes. Enterprise is priced to the page count and schedule you need. See pricing.
How does the free trial work?
Every paid plan opens with a 5-day free trial. No credit card is needed to start one and there is no sales call, so you can have your first monitor running in a few minutes. The Free plan is separate, does not expire, and covers three pages checked daily.
What kinds of pages and changes can I monitor?
Any page ChangeTower can reach. Pricing and product pages, careers pages and job boards, regulator and government pages, terms and policy pages, and your own site. Detection is at content and HTML level, so an edited price, a reworded clause, a removed disclosure and a newly added script all register as changes.
Does it work on pages that load their content with JavaScript?
Yes. Every check loads the page in a real browser and waits for it to render, so content that arrives from a script or an API after the initial HTML is captured like anything else. The snapshot holds both the rendered page and the HTML behind it.
Can you monitor pages behind a login, a cookie banner or a location picker?
Yes. Manual user actions record the steps a person would take, signing in, dismissing a cookie banner, choosing a size or a region, and replay them before every check. The page is then captured in the state you actually want to watch, rather than the state a first-time visitor sees.
Are there pages ChangeTower cannot monitor?
Yes. A site that blocks automated traffic outright cannot be watched, which rules out X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram. A page that simply needs a sign-in is fine, since manual user actions can log in before each check. If a page will not load for a monitor, you see that immediately rather than after a silent month.
Can I watch one section of a page instead of the whole page?
Yes. Selective monitoring narrows a monitor to the part of the page that matters, or excludes the parts that do not, which is how you stop a ticker, a carousel or an ad slot from counting as a change. Monitoring a section starts on Essential, ignoring specific elements on Business.
Can I watch for one specific word or phrase?
Yes. Keyword monitoring alerts you when a word or phrase appears on a page, or when one you expect to be there disappears, and ignores everything else. It is the narrowest way to watch a page, useful for a product name, a clause, a discount code or a required disclosure.
How many pages can I monitor, and can I watch a whole domain?
Your plan sets how many pages you can monitor, starting at three on the Free plan. On Enterprise, domain scanning crawls a whole domain weekly, fortnightly or monthly and reports the URLs it found, keeping a dated snapshot of each. You then choose which of those pages to monitor.
How often are pages checked?
Check frequency is set per monitor, within what your plan allows: daily on Free and Lite, hourly on Essential, every 20 minutes on Business, and a schedule you set on Enterprise. From Essential upwards a monitor can also be given specific days and times rather than a fixed interval.
Where do alerts get sent?
Email, on every plan. On Business and above alerts can also go to Slack, to a webhook of your own, or to an AI assistant through MCP. A native Microsoft Teams integration is in development, and until it ships you can add a Teams channel's email address as a member so changes land there.
Can it tell me when something is removed, not just when it changes?
Yes, and removal is often the sharper signal. Every change shows removed content in red and new content in green, so a deleted price line, a pulled job posting or a dropped disclosure reads as clearly as an addition. You can also name elements that must always be present and hear the moment one goes missing.
Will I get too many alerts?
That is in your control. Selective monitoring narrows a monitor to the part of the page you care about, or excludes the parts you do not. AI monitoring goes further: you write the criteria in plain language, alert me only when the price drops, and everything else is stored without alerting anyone.
Who on my team gets the alerts, and can I change where they go?
Anyone you invite to a workspace can receive alerts, and what each member can see and do is set by a role you build permission by permission rather than picked from a fixed list. Grouping monitors into folders is how most teams split alerts, so each folder reaches the people who act on it.
Can I send changes into my own systems, or into an AI assistant?
Yes, on Business and above. A webhook sends every alert to your systems as a signed HTTPS request with retries, so a change can open a ticket, write to a database or start whatever runs next. MCP connects ChangeTower to Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini, so you can create monitors and review alerts by asking.
What is a snapshot, and how long is it kept?
A snapshot is a dated capture of the page, the rendered page and the HTML behind it, stored on every check whether anything changed or not. History runs 30 days on Free and Lite, 60 days on Essential and 6 months on Business. Enterprise is configured to the period your records policy needs.
Can I see what a page said before I started monitoring it?
No. The record starts with the first check, so there is no back catalogue and nothing that was removed before you added the page. Add the pages you expect to care about early, since a page checked hourly builds hundreds of dated snapshots inside a month.
Can I export the history, or prove what a page said on a given date?
Yes. Open a page's snapshot list, filter to the dates in question, then open the day you need and export it as a PDF or spreadsheet report. Because a snapshot is stored on every check whether the page changed or not, the record shows what a page said on a date, not only when it moved.
Can my whole team work from the same monitors?
Is ChangeTower secure, and do you support single sign-on?
Accounts support multi-factor authentication, and Enterprise plans can use SAML single sign-on so access follows your identity provider. Workspaces are walled from one another: a member of one workspace does not see the others, which is what makes it safe to give a client or a contractor their own.
Where are my logins kept if a monitor has to sign in to a page?
Credentials are stored securely and used only to reach the page they were added for. A monitor reaches exactly what your own account reaches and nothing more, so it cannot see areas your login does not. Which teammates can open or edit that monitor follows the role you gave each of them.
How is ChangeTower different from other website change detection tools?
Every tool in this category will tell you a page changed. The differences worth comparing are what happens next: whether every check is archived whether or not anything moved, whether you can describe in plain language what deserves an alert, whether the record exports for an auditor, and whether a team can share it with roles and workspaces.
Why not just use Google Alerts, or write a script?
They answer different questions. Google Alerts tells you when something new is indexed somewhere on the web, not when a page you named quietly changed a price or dropped a clause. A script can fetch a page, though the work is everything after that: rendering, logins, noise, storage, alerting, and a record somebody else can read.
How is this different from the Wayback Machine?
The Wayback Machine captures what it happens to crawl, when it happens to crawl it. ChangeTower captures every page you name on a schedule you set, with a precise timestamp and the HTML behind each capture, and it tells you at the time rather than leaving you to notice later.
